Simply called Americain by locals, this hotel is located on one of the capital's most famous squares. The hotel was renamed as Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American after the building became the property of the Hard Rock Group in 2019. The current building dates from its reconstruction at the turn of the last century designed by architects Kromhout and Jansen, who remade the hotel in Art Nouveau style. Its interior is an interesting fusion of jugendstil and rock decorative elements. A fun and eclectic mix, with memorabilia from famous rock stars.

The Conservatorium hotel has two rooms especially equipped for disabled guests. The room itself is spacious, easy to reach with wheelchair and all facilities are located at the same level. These rooms offer a spacious bathroom, which are wheelchair accessible. The toilet is raised and both toilet and shower have support handles on both sides. The shower also contains support handles. All meeting and events rooms are easy to reach via the lift in the lobby. The Akasha Holistic Wellbeing is accessible by the main lifts in the lobby. The gym and the accessible changing rooms including shower and toilet are available in the reception level of the spa.

My name is Josephine Rees (1993). I’m Dutch-British and was raised internationally in Tokyo and Moscow. I recently completed my MSc in Social Policy & Public Health and live in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. I was confronted with the value of mobility after losing it in an instant. I realised there was a lack of centralised information in English about Amsterdam’s accessibility. My purpose is to highlight accessible places, to shatter disability stereotypes, and to encourage people of all levels of mobility to get the most out of this exciting city.

On one of the most beautiful canals in the entire capital, there is a delightful hotel, the Hoxton, which has one accessible room. So if you want to stay here make sure you book early. The entire structure is masterfully decorated. 

Ramp access to the hotel.  Spacious room filled with delicate reminders of the history of Amsterdam and contemporary design. The Superior Rooms are equipped with queen size Sofitel MyBed and walk-in rain shower. The layout of the monasteries with their monastic courtyards and gardens can still be seen today. The buildings in the second half of the 16th century were then used as hotels for high-ranking guests until, in the next century, they became municipal headquarters. Different roles followed over the centuries until 1992 when it was transformed into the present hotel, completing major restoration work that spared no expense. 

Upper floors accessible by elevator. The ibis Styles Amsterdam Central Station features air-conditioned rooms with satellite TV and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer. Accessible rooms have a roll-in shower.

This recently renovated hotel is located in a spot accessible from the A10 highway and is close to the center of Amsterdam. A really interesting special feature is that its rooms can be voice-controlled. The hotel's restaurant serves international cuisine and on a seasonal basis.
