The Major’s Quarter is the middle of three single storey cottages (formerly officers’ quarters) located on St Anthony Head .
The cottage is designated as accessible to accompanied wheelchair users and others with impaired mobility. The kitchen and twin bedroom face out to sea. The sitting/dining room and double bedroom look onto the back garden.
This stern-looking former officer’s quarter on St Anthony Head is great if you’re into military history, or if you’re just looking for a brilliant sea view, then this little cottage has that too. It has some wheelchair access too, with adapted interiors and an accessible tarmac path that leads to a view point overlooking St Mawes, Falmouth and the Carrick Roads.
The Major’s Quarter along with Tiffy's, The Captain’s and The Lieutenant’s Quarter holiday homes sit high on St Anthony Head overlooking the sea. These special buildings were preserved after we bought St Anthony Head on the Roseland Peninsula in 1959. Now guests can explore the history of the former military fortification site when they stay here.
If you had a beach visit in mind, the small coves of Great Molunan & Little Molunan are close by. For a little bit of culture and a pub lunch, head to small fishing village, Portscatho which is just a 10 minute drive from here. By staying here you’ll be helping care for this significant historic site for future generations.
The cottage has night storage heating, convector heaters and an open fire. Laundry facilities are in an outbuilding and are shared by all three cottages. The land immediately surrounding the cottage is reasonably flat and there is a firm and level footpath running past the cottage.
The garden is laid to grass front and back and is shared with the other two cottages. There is a walk from the headland to a wheelchair observation point. The route may be muddy in places in wet weather.
The accommodation is arranged as follows:
Hallway, sitting/dining room, kitchen, double bedroom, twin bedroom, bathroom with bath, floor level access shower and WC. Level access throughout the cottage.
Internal door clear opening widths range from 760mm (the twin bedroom) to 800mm (the bedrooms and bathroom).
