Wheelie Campers offers Australia’s first self drive wheelchair accessible camper vans. They are set up for wheelchair users to either stay in the wheelchair, with secure restraints using ‘Q-Straint’, or transfer to the front seat which rotates for ease of access. Wheelie Campers have confirmed that they can take up to two wheelchairs using the ‘Q-Straint’ system. The vans can be rented as self drive with pick up on the Gold Coast or delivered to your door nationwide. Vehicles are supplied which will accommodate up to 5 passengers plus a driver.
All vehicles are wheelchair accessible and by using the rotating passenger seat, this allows the best possible perspective when travelling around this beautiful country.
When it is the end of the day and you’re ready to settle down for the night, a few easy reconfigurations allows you to be positioned in bed via our easy lowering bed system. Each vehicle is converted with 240v and has options to charge the system via the engine, external power source and mains inlet.
Each vehicle has a sink, toilet (chemical), hotplate, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and air conditioning. It has an onboard TV which easily connects to most mobile phones, Playstation and X-Box. A front/rear dash cam and GPS is installed for your safety and ease of maneuverability.
Vehicles are maintained to the highest standard and comply to the same standards as public transport wheelchair accessible vehicles. Prior to every rental, each vehicle is assessed by their mechanical team to ensure there are minimal interruptions to your trip.
Unlike larger Motorhomes, the company use a Mercedes Sprinter as a base vehicle. These vehicles have lots of space for internal movement of manual/motorised wheelchairs. Prior to the vehicle being released the company provide a full run down of the vehicle and safe operation of wheelchair hoist, bed and wheelchair safety tie down points. Vehicles can be driven with a normal car licence and are relatively easy to drive following our short vehicle training (20 minutes). There are manual and automatic vehicles available to book and each sleep 5 comfortably inside and with the possibility of another 8 guests who can take advantage of the supplied tent.
