Mössems is the inheritance name of the former family Morsink/ Morsman, later Roepe. The inheritance is listed in the Fire Cities Register from 1675. In this register the tax to be collected on houses was kept, measured by the number of rooms where fire could be fired.
The tax was introduced in 1598 and this history is now reflected in the two fireplaces that connect Mössems with the family's yard.
The house of the owners depicts the first fire pit. The second fireplace is a fireplace in the common room of the B&B. On the spot where the second one is now and where it is located, there used to be a barn, built by grandpa Roepe with the help of his son Jan. On the peat ground, the family built a granary with a typical kink in the roof.
