Pool Hoists on Cruise Ships

Pool Hoists on Cruise Ships

Cruise ships have improved greatly in the past 25 years when it comes to accessibility - from improved spaces in the public areas to designated wheelchair spaces in the theatres and buffet restaurants.

However when it comes to taking a dip in the pool or jacuzzi, it really is a mixed bag of experiences. Those with mobility challenges who need to be hoisted in and out of the pool normally have to book their date and time , so that the trained team (can be up to six people) can erect the equipment (in some cases) and ensure that the user is  safely taken in and out of the pool.

Personal experience has sadly been less than straightforward. From hoists 'out of service' due to mechanical failure to hoists which either do not fully reach into the pool proper , or deposit the user in the six feet of water in the deep end - not ideal if the bather needs help! - No snorkels are provided! Have you had any negative experiences like this?
