Beware when taking Liquid Medical Nutrition on a Cruise Ship

Beware when taking Liquid Medical Nutrition on a Cruise Ship

No Liquids Please!

Many Cruise Lines are quite strict about what they allow on board. Certainly taking your own alcohol is not normally allowed and they will check your bags before you board. Many will not allow any kinds of liquids to be taken on board - this includes water. Despite being clearly labelled, Norwegian Cruise Lines in Miami could not cope with loading our daughter's essential enteral feed at the start of a two week cruise.

Massive Hunt For Feed

All baggage efficiently arrived in the cabin of our NCL ship except for our daughter's liquid nutrition. An enquiry at reception was met with the response 'oh if it was liquid it has probably been destroyed' . Not the words we were expecting to hear.

Barman! Get Me a Soya Milk Wallbanger Please!

To discover that our daughter's liquid food was found behind a bar marked as 'LIQUOR' was something we were not expecting, and how anyone thought that it would make a good cocktail is quite unbelievable!

Tip for the Future:

Get some highly visible 'MEDICAL' stickers for any items like liquid feed. Ensure that you seek out a senior portside official who overseas the loading of baggage onto the ship, and finally, take a quick photo of all your baggage together before boarding the ship. Happy Sailing!
